Policy Initiatives Identified
At the Fall 2006 Policy and Planning Session, the Bowen Island Chamber of Commerce renewed its commitment to "promoting prosperity on Bowen".
Prosperity means different things to different people, but whether one makes $8 an hour or $80, prosperity is related to "quality of life".
The Chamber of Commerce Executive identified 6 key areas where the Chamber could provide a leadership role or where its support could have an impact:
- Banking – bring banking services to the island
- Housing – provide assistance and support to the Bowen Community Housing Association
- Tourism – continue to promote and develop tourism on Bowen Island and extend tourism opportunities beyond the summer months
- Transportation – provide assistance and support to bring a gas station and taxi service back to Bowen and to reduce ferry line-up issues
- Sustainability – assist and support to initiatives promoting sustainable agriculture, light industry and other businesses on the island
- Communications – position the Chamber as the primary voice or lobbyist organization for those groups whose initiatives will help promote prosperity on Bowen
